In an effort to expand its travel business, Groupon (s GRPN) announced Monday that it had acquired Blink, a European travel app that offers same-day hotel bookings.
Much like HotelTonight, which recently landed a $45 million round of venture funding, Madrid-based Blink lets travelers find last-minute deals on hotel rooms from their smartphones. The companies declined to disclose financial details but said the new service would be re-branded “Blink by Groupon” and operate as a separate team.
Groupon said the acquisition would boost its Getaways travel business and complement its existing packages, especially those for Europe.
Blink, which has raised $2.5 million in venture capital, says it works with more than 2,000 hotel partners in eight European countries.
